What are bed
sores?
Bed Sores are also called “Pressure
Ulcers”. Bed sores are usually the result of prolonged
excessive pressure on the skin. When an external
pressure which is greater than 32 mm Hg is on skin, the pressure will squeezes
tiny vessel. As a result, the pressure can reduce the
blood supply to the skin and the tissues under the skin. When
skin lacks nutrients for too long, the tissue dies and pressure ulcer forms.

How to
prevent the bed sores
Any attempt to
prevent bed sores must therefore aim to reduce the pressure
and shorten its duration. The duration of pressure can be shortened by
regularly repositioning the patient.
Preventive Device
Using a specially designed bed, mattress can help. These include
air-filled, alternating-pressure mattresses, gel, special foam mattress etc. It helps to spread pressure over a wider area.
